Title: Numbers
Author: Rachel Ward
Publisher: Scholastic
Edition: Paperback
This was a particularly surprising book for me. The first time I heard about this book it already caught my interest. I liked it simply because of the surprising end. It was honest and surreal. You can feel the character's struggle every time she looks into someone's eyes. For me this book is just full of emotions.
the story...
Jem doesn't like to look into people's eyes. It's not because she doesn't like them. She always sees numbers on people. When she was young she doesn't know what it means. The meaning came out and materialized when her mother died. The numbers that always pop when she looks at people are the date of their death. Nobody knows but her. She kept it to herself for as long as she can remember. Nobody needs to know that she's a weirdo. She just let them think that she's a loner and she doesn't need friends.
Things change when she met Spider. He is Jem's classmate who has an appetite for trouble. She knows his number and it's very short. So what... she sees it all the time. They became close and after an incident in London Eye she wants to save Spider. Now, how can she save someone whose deadline is already fixed.
